Privacy policy

Summary

The extension does not collect any personal data for its developer. It has no server, no user accounts, no analytics and no ads on web pages or videos. The only data that leaves your device is the text of the subtitles you choose to translate. That text is sent to the translation service you select.

Data processed

• Subtitle text. While you watch a video with subtitles enabled, the extension reads the subtitle file already loaded by the page and sends its lines for translation to the service you selected:
  • Google Translate (translate.googleapis.com) by default
  • the Google Gemini API (generativelanguage.googleapis.com) if you choose Gemini
  • any OpenAI-compatible endpoint you configure yourself, such as Groq, OpenRouter or your own Ollama
  No page URL, video title or identifying information is included. The translation service receives the request's IP address as with any web request, and its own privacy policy applies.
• Settings and API keys are stored in the browser's extension storage (chrome.storage). If browser sync is enabled, the browser may sync them across your own devices through your Google account. The developer never receives them.
• Translation cache. Finished translations are stored locally in your browser (IndexedDB) so the same line is not translated twice. You can clear the cache from the extension popup.

What we do not do

• We do not store or transmit video, browsing history, passwords, form data or other page content.
• We do not sell or share data with advertisers, or use it for anything other than displaying translations.
• We do not load or execute remote code.

Links in the popup

The bottom of the extension popup contains a link to another service by the same developer (PixDream) and a voluntary donation page. They open in a new tab only when you click them, and the extension sends no data about you through them. Donations are processed by Stripe, and Stripe's privacy policy applies to them. The PixDream link carries a standard source tag (utm_source) that only shows the visit came from the extension.

Why access to all sites is needed

Videos are hosted on countless sites, so the extension needs to run on all pages to detect subtitle files. For files loaded by the page, it only checks whether the file is a subtitle file, based on its content type and first bytes. Video, images and large files are skipped entirely. Anything that is not a subtitle file is discarded immediately and is never stored or sent anywhere.

Removal and contact

Uninstalling the extension removes its settings and cache from your browser. For questions, use the Support tab on the extension's Chrome Web Store page.

Lyhyesti

Laajennus ei kerää sinusta mitään tietoja kehittäjälle. Sillä ei ole omaa palvelinta, käyttäjätiliä, analytiikkaa eikä mainoksia sivuilla tai videoiden päällä. Ainoa tieto, joka lähtee koneeltasi, on käännettävän tekstityksen teksti. Se lähetetään valitsemallesi käännöspalvelulle.

Mitä tietoja käsitellään

• Tekstitysten teksti. Kun katsot videota tekstitys päällä, laajennus lukee selaimeen ladatun tekstitystiedoston ja lähettää sen rivit käännettäväksi valitsemallesi palvelulle:
  • oletuksena Google-käännökselle (translate.googleapis.com)
  • jos olet valinnut Geminin, Googlen Gemini API:lle (generativelanguage.googleapis.com)
  • jos olet itse asettanut muun palvelun, sen osoitteeseen (esim. Groq, OpenRouter tai oma Ollama-koneesi)
  Mukana ei lähetetä sivun osoitetta, videon nimeä eikä mitään sinua yksilöivää tietoa. Käännöspalvelu näkee kuitenkin pyynnön IP-osoitteen tavalliseen tapaan. Palvelun oma tietosuojakäytäntö koskee sen käsittelemiä tietoja.
• Asetukset ja API-avaimet. Asetuksesi ja mahdollinen API-avaimesi tallennetaan selaimen omaan laajennustallennukseen (chrome.storage). Jos selaimesi synkronointi on päällä, selain voi synkronoida ne Google-tilisi kautta omille laitteillesi. Kehittäjä ei näe niitä.
• Käännösvälimuisti. Valmiit käännökset tallennetaan vain omaan selaimeesi (IndexedDB), jotta samaa riviä ei tarvitse kääntää uudelleen. Välimuistin voi tyhjentää laajennuksen ikkunasta.

Mitä ei tehdä

• Laajennus ei tallenna eikä lähetä videota, selaushistoriaa, salasanoja, lomakkeita tai muuta sivujen sisältöä.
• Tietoja ei myydä, luovuteta mainostajille eikä käytetä mihinkään muuhun kuin käännöksen näyttämiseen.
• Laajennus ei lataa eikä suorita etäkoodia.

Linkit ponnahdusikkunassa

Laajennuksen ponnahdusikkunan alareunassa on linkki tekijän toiseen palveluun (PixDream) ja vapaaehtoiseen lahjoitussivuun. Linkit avautuvat uuteen välilehteen vain, jos klikkaat niitä. Laajennus ei lähetä niiden kautta tietoja sinusta. Lahjoitukset käsittelee maksupalvelu Stripe, ja niihin sovelletaan Stripen tietosuojakäytäntöä. PixDream-linkissä on tavallinen lähdetunniste (utm_source), josta näkyy vain, että kävijä tuli laajennuksen kautta.

Miksi laajennus tarvitsee pääsyn kaikille sivuille

Videoita on lukemattomilla sivustoilla, joten laajennuksen täytyy toimia kaikilla sivuilla tunnistaakseen tekstitystiedostot. Sivun lataamista tiedostoista se tarkistaa vain, onko kyse tekstityksestä (tiedostotyypin ja tiedoston alun perusteella). Videot, kuvat ja suuret tiedostot ohitetaan kokonaan. Muut kuin tekstitystiedostot hylätään saman tien, eikä niitä tallenneta tai lähetetä minnekään.

Poistaminen

Kun poistat laajennuksen selaimesta, selain poistaa myös sen asetukset ja välimuistin.
